The Opportunity
The Head Coach, Strength & Conditioning and Manager, Sport Performance develops, designs and oversees the delivery and integration of all programs and services related to the sport performance of student athletes, including strength and conditioning, athletic therapy, mental health, sport medicine, nutrition and sport psychology ensuring implementation of modern sport science knowledge and technologies. Leads and supports community engagement, strategic planning, and operational programming initiatives that promote successful programs that align with the department’s strategic plans.
Qualifications

- Completion of a degree in Sport Performance, Kinesiology, Business administration or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience as a strength and conditioning coach, leading a sport science/sport performance team.
- Experience as an athlete and/or coach in a high performance setting at the national or professional level, including experience working in a university setting.
- Strong technical background and practical experience in a highly competitive environment.
- Experience in the Athletics and Recreation field, including experience in aquatics, fitness, intramurals, instruction, administration and delegation, revenue generation, communication and risk management.
- Certification in strength and conditioning (NSCA certification required). Additional CATC athletic therapy preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
Required skills and demonstrated knowledge
- Knowledge of the use of sport science to improve performance and the ability to develop and manage the collection of high performance data;
- Advanced knowledge of the performance, strength and conditioning requirements and programs associated with success in national and international sports;
- Strong technical background and practical experience in performance coaching;
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment and maintenance requirements for high performance facilities;
- Working knowledge of the diverse areas of athletic support services, including strength and conditioning, athletic therapy, sport psychology and sport medicine;
- Understanding of the particular nature of high performance athletics and the demands facing coaches and athletes;
- In-depth understanding of approaches to high performance sport at the professional or national team level;
- Proven ability to work with sports teams, varsity athletes and coaches in designing, implementing and evaluating performance programs for multiple sports;
- Ability to champion broad initiatives to improve organizational performance and deliver on business objectives;
- Collaboration, facilitation, communication and leadership skills for optimizing the effectiveness of a staff team;
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify business requirements, define strategies, develop metrics, and implement practical business solutions under constraints;
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and align policies and practices to meet goals;
- Ability to compile, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources, modeling and costing alternatives;
- Strong computer skills and competency with spreadsheets, email, word processing, database software packages, and scheduling software;
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and align policies and practices to meet goals;
- Demonstrated skills in budgeting, analyzing metrics and creating reports.
