The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Athletics and Recreation Department by providing strength and conditioning expertise to varsity sport teams, and to monitor the safe and appropriate use of equipment by users of the High-Performance Centre. The incumbent also performs a variety of fitness appraisals and designs exercise training programs for varsity student-athletes.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning will work to coordinate with Athletic Therapists and Head Coaches of varsity teams to provide expertise, guidance, and training in the area of performance management for student-athletes and varsity sport teams at Saint Mary’s University. This position involves managing several student volunteers and providing educational lectures and experiences.
Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning will also create and oversee the programming and implementation of performance training for external teams and individual athletes at the community, provincial, national and professional levels.
This position is considered a 24 (twenty-four) month contract with the University and the salary range will be $55,000 – $65,000 annually.

Qualifications
To be the successful Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning you will possess an Undergraduate degree, preferably in Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Physiology or a related Health Sciences field and a minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience. Additionally, you must be registered with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and have their Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certificate. CSEP (Certified Exercise Physiologist) Certificate, NCCP and/or USAW Weightlifting is considered an asset. You will also possess strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
