The Challenges & Triumphs in Developing Multi-Million Dollar High Performance Facilities
with Josh Crouse, Head of Sports Performance at St. Francis Xavier University

During this presentation Josh will discuss his lessons and learnings over the last 10 years while being involved in the development of high performance facilities at his alma mater Acadia University, as well as the new High Performance Centre currently being completed at StFX University. The goal of this session is to provide insight to coaches on how to navigate the highly complex process involved in facility design in the University sector.

Key topics will include: developing a blueprint, collaborating with key stakeholders, developing and implementing contingency plans, working within a budget, leveraging project resources, working with equipment companies, and roadblocks and how to overcome them.

The trend of democratizing athlete testing combines signifies a transition from exclusivity to accessibility, extending such evaluations beyond solely professional and elite athletes. This evolution has positioned athlete testing combines as indispensable tools for sports organizations and performance gyms, appealing to a broader spectrum of athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Why conduct them? There are numerous reasons, including objective evaluation, talent identification, benchmarking, and team building.

Leveraging project management principles, this presentation will concentrate on best practices for orchestrating athlete testing events that are effective, efficient, and enjoyable, while also mitigating risks. Emphasis will be placed on integrating sought-after technologies into the process.
