Assessing the Countermovement Jump Velocity-Load Relationship: Strength Diagnostics and Return to Play Assessment
with Matt Jordan
Assessing muscle mechanics, including basic muscle properties such as the force velocity relationship, can assist practitioners to assess athletes after lower body injury, monitor neuromuscular function, and fine tune strength training program design. In this session, we will cover the physiology and mechanics of whole-body force velocity testing and its application for monitoring neuromuscular function and rehabilitation after injury. We will discuss best practices in testing and data analysis to obtain a reliable and valid assessment of the lower body force velocity relationship.
Linear Speed Development & Considerations of Lateral Direction Changes for Athletes
with Rich Hesketh
The fastest athletes in the world do fundamental drills regularly to remain the fastest. Why would any other sport athlete be different if they are looking to improve speed? Furthermore, although speed is important what seems to be lost is the teaching of the transition between linear speed and lateral direction change. In a practical setting we will review the fundamental of speed drills and how that can be applied but also the transition and execution of change of direction mechanics to stop & start both effectively and safely.
How and Why to Incorporate Non-Traditional Strength Methods into your Practice
with Joe McCullum
The foundations for the majority of athletes revolve around their ability to flex, extend, rotate, and resist movement relatively well. Traditional strength training can offer some great yields in these foundational movements, but are we leaving some valuable factors out?
In this active session, we will add variables to traditional movements and show how athletes can learn to connect the dots to encourage the best transfer possible from the gym/field to their respective sport. We will touch on the following concepts: using sport KPIs to inform sessions, yielding, falling and tumbling progressions, transitions, partner work, how to resist tension and manipulate it in others.
